What to expect

YOUR FIRST VISIT


The process of evaluation consists of two separate consultations

The duration of a first consultation is 60 minutes and consists of the following:

Only the parents will attend for the 1st appointment with Dr. Saunders. The parents will have the opportunity to discuss their concerns and expectations regarding the evaluation. A detailed medical, developmental and behavioural history is obtained from parents and or caregivers. The child will not attend the first session as this is a duscusion between Dr. Saunders and parents.

The second consultation is 60 minutes and consists of the following:

A developmental screening evaluation of the child in younger children and play based interaction and or interview with older children.
A medical and neurological examination is performed to rule out existing medical conditions that might be associated with developmental, behavioural or learning difficulties.
Following the above, the findings of the clinician is discussed with parents and caregivers. A differential diagnosis and diagnostic possibilities are discussed and recommendations made regarding further diagnostic investigations. Possible intervention strategies can then be discussed and questions and concerns of parents addressed.

All fees are due at the time of consultation. You will be provided with a receipt of payment and a detailed statement to make a claim against your medical insurance.

Additional information is sought from teachers, therapists and involved professionals to inform diagnosis as well as further diagnostic investigations.A full medical report is then compiled summarizing the presenting complaint, history obtained from parents and clinical findings of the clinician. The clinician’s interpretation of the above and further recommendations is summarized. The formal report serves as a form of communication between professionals.

The following forms needs to be completed and returned before the time of consultation (Our Admin officer will provide you with these).

3. Snap form for completion by both parents as well as all teachers involved for children older than 6 years.

Please return completed forms as soon as possible. Please send us other reports from Dr’s and therapist that you have.
