The duration of a first consultation is 60 minutes and consists of the following: Parents and child attend the first appointment. The parents will have the opportunity to discuss their concerns and expectations regarding the evaluation. A detailed medical, developmental and behavioural history is obtained.

This is followed by a developmental screening evaluation, medical and neurological examinations to rule out existing medical conditions that might be associated with developmental, behavioural or learning difficulties.

Following this, the findings of the clinician is discussed with parents or caregivers. A differential diagnosis and diagnostic possibilities are discussed and recommendations made regarding further diagnostic investigations. Possible intervention strategies can be discussed and questions and concerns of parents addressed and follow up consultations are discussed.

The process of evaluation usually consists of 3 separate consultations.

• All fees are due at the time of consultation. You will be provided with a receipt of payment and a detailed statement to make a claim against your medical insurance.
• Additional information is also sought from teachers, therapists and involved professionals to inform diagnosis as well as further diagnostic investigations. A summary report is compiled once diagnostic clarification is reached.
